| Building and Grounds
Theology: “Unless the Lord builds the house, their labor is in vain who build it. Unless the Lord watches over the City, in vain the watchman keeps his vigil…Happy are they who fear the Lord and who follow in his ways.” * The Junior Warden who is Chair of this Committee is elected by the congregation for a term of two years.
* His responsibilities and that of the Committee is to Monitor the state of all the Church buildings and furnishings.
* Monitor costs and type of lighting, heating and cooling systems to ensure that buildings are comfortable for use by members.
* Manage the “maintenance budget” in such a way that its use is maximized for the benefit of the Parish.
* Organize a “Volunteer work day” to service and maintain Church fixtures and ornaments and use this as a means of building community.
* Take and maintain an “Inventory” of Church property and develop a priority list of needed repairs and maintenance.
* Inspect roof, gutters, fire extinguishers, exit signs and generally engage in preventive maintenance.
* Review buildings and liability insurance from time to time to ensure that the Parish is adequately covered.
* Ensure that all Church valuables are kept in safety and protected.
* Make Inventory available to Finance and Stewardship Committees.
* Supervise custodial arrangement of parish in cooperation with the rector since the sexton, as a member of staff, is under the rector’s direction.
* Give full report on the activities of the committee to the monthly Vestry meeting and to the Annual meeting of the Parish. |
